So, what does it mean to progress?
And how do we measure it?
Given what was promised examined in retrospect?

They used to speak of a bright development plan
But the title referred to an average state
Well if this is what it means, for visual acuity to be 6/6
I hope our other senses compensate

It sometimes feels like we are just the leading zeros
In datasets collected through imperfect methodologies
Inputs into indicators that will never meet
Arbitrary benchmarks for prosperity

Converging
To a resource curse
Can not be our destiny

It’s a tragedy that we’re forced to concede
To the inverse relationship that’s between
A historically successful denominator
And proximity to the Equator
No matter who is in power
